CET co-founder Alan Gardner, RIP

img_0025Glenn Alan Gardner, 48, died at his home on October 27, 2016, after an extended illness. The memorial service will be held at St. Stephens Episcopal Church on Sunday, November 6th at 2pm. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Francie, and their four sons: McNeill, Stuart, Hamilton, and Walker.

Alan graduated from Berry High School in 1986 and attended college at UAB. He earned a MFA in acting from the University of Pittsburgh in 1994. He and his wife moved to Atlanta after graduating. In 1995, they moved to Los Angeles to pursue their careers in acting but returned to Alabama to raise their family.

Alan was a well-known actor and director in the Birmingham area. He and his wife founded South City Theater, which has been a fixture in the Alabaster-Pelham area for over 15 years. He was also the co-founder of City Equity Theater in Birmingham. Mr. G taught theater for 17 years, most recently at Vestavia Hills High School and The Alabama School of Fine Arts. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the UAB Department of Theatre, 574 Heritage Hall, 1720 Second Avenue S., Birmingham, Al. 35294-1150.

Cancellation of remainder of ’15-’16 season

Dear patrons and supporters:
We regret to inform you that we must postpone The 39 Steps and The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter in order to be fiscally responsible. We are very proud of the artistic work we have been able to stage this season and are working diligently to return very soon. Patrons who purchased season tickets will be contacted. Thank you.
